Cyberinfrastructure Seminar Series: "GridShib: An Attribute-Based Authorization Framework"
11:00am-12:30pm PDT
December 6, 2005
Access Grid, SDSC Auditorium, Webcast
The Globus Toolkit is the leading toolkit for the deployment of grids. Shibboleth is a
project from the Internet2 community that allows for cross-organizational sharing of web
resources. GridShib builds on these existing technologies to allow for interoperability
between them so that virtual organizations built on Globus Toolkit can leverage
Shibboleth. This talk provides overviews of the Globus Toolkit, Shibboleth, and GridShib,
as well as future challenges. The talk will be technical, but will not presume an
understanding of security. The Cyberinfrastructure Seminar Series is a set of
presentations on cyberinfrastructure and related research organized by NCSA and SDSC.
These seminars are available on site at the presenting institution and remotely via the
Access Grid and webcast via CI Channel. For more details
regarding the AG venue for this seminar, please refer to
the AG scheduler.
All Access Grid sites are welcome to participate in this seminar. If you have any questions,
contact Jennie File, NCSA Training and Outreach Group.

Tutorial: The Globus Toolkit in e-Science: Examples and Lessons
November 13, 2005
Seattle, WA
This half-day tutorial provides three case studies from successful e-Science projects and
highlights the lessons learned from those experiences. Three challenging IT problems will
be presented in the context of specific science projects. The tutorial will explore the
science requirements, the technical approach taken in each solution, and the results.
Reusable Grid technologies from the Globus Toolkit such as GridFTP, MyProxy, and GRAM will
be introduced. Along the way, we will highlight the general lessons that these experiences
provided and the implications for new e-Science projects.
SC05 Birds of a Feather (BOF): Globus Toolkit v4: Status and Experiences
November 15, 2005
Seattle, WA
This BOF will provide an opportunity to learn about GT4, hear from early adopters, and provide feedback on future directions.
SC05 Birds of a Feather (BOF): Grid Applications and Performance
November 15, 2005
Seattle, WA
Following activities at the Third International Grid Performance Workshop (June 2005),
this BOF will allow further discussion between tool and application stakeholders to
forward performance work in Grids.
October 2005
GGF-15
Community Event: Building a Java Service Using The Globus Toolkit v4
October 6, 2005
Boston, MA
This half-day tutorial is designed to teach developers how to build a Java Service using the Globus Toolkit (GT4). This course is a compressed version of our standard, full-day, hands-on tutorial. Attendees are invited to follow along with the exercises on the laptops, though tech support will be very limited due to the amount of material to be covered.
September 2005
Globus Toolkit Tutorials in Australia
September 29-30, 2005
Royal Pines Resort, Gold Coast
This two-day tutorial will provide an in-depth introduction to programming with the
latest version of the Globus Toolkit version 4 (GT4). Released at the end of April
2005, GT4 provides a robust set of new services and tools, and completes the first
stage of the migration to Web services that began in 2003 with GT3.
July 2005
Half-day GT4 Tutorial at HPDC
July 24, 2005
Research Triangle Park, NC
Ian Foster will present a half-day GT4 tutorial at HPDC, Sunday July 24th, in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Globus Toolkit Version 4: Status and Experiences - A Workshop at GGF-14
June 27, 2005
Chicago, IL
This workshop at GGF-14 will include an introduction to the Globus Toolkit, version
4.0, by members of the Globus Toolkit development community. It will also include
descriptions of early experiences with GT4 in Grid application deployment projects,
presented by members of the Globus Toolkit user community.
2005 GRIDS
Center Community Workshop
June 23-24, 2005
Chicago, IL
This workshop brings together leaders and technical staff from leading
Cyberinfrastructure development and deployment projects to encourage
cross-discipline interactions involving Grid middleware.
Many groups have overlapping or very similar middleware needs, and the GRIDS
leadership wants to help identify these targets of opportunity that will
maximize benefits to the greater scientific community through coordinated
effort and reduced duplication.
Globus
Toolkit 4 Tutorial
June 16-17
Champaign-Urbana, IL
A two-day tutorial on Globus Toolkit v. 4 will be held June 16-17 at
the Beckman Institute on the University of Illinois campus. The
tutorial is co-sponsored by NCSA, Argonne National Laboratory, and the
GRIDS Center. The tutorial will include an overview of GT4, GT4 security,
and how to build a Java service using GT4. A
full agenda
and other details are available online.
The tutorial is free; to register, email Mike Freemon at

This conference brings together the region's leaders in network technology, research
and education to explore middleware, grid computing, research and advanced network
technology. Ian Foster will deliver one of three keynote lectures, and June 10
will be a full-day Globus
Toolkit and Grid workshop.
May 2005
2 Day Programming Tutorial with WSRF and the Globus Toolkit Version 4
May 3-4, 2005
San Diego, CA
These two days of tutorials provide an in-depth introduction to programming with the
latest version of the Globus Toolkit (GT4). The course is geared toward developers
who want to learn about the newest work of the Globus Alliance and how to apply
fundamental concepts in Grid computing. The first day teaches developers how to
build a Java Service that makes use of GT4 mechanisms for state management, security,
registry, and related topics. The second day is less hands on and more
presentation-oriented. It provides a comprehensive introduction to GT4, covering
execution management services, data movement and management services, and security services, and also
reviewing some of the higher-level tools that build on Globus mechanisms. A brief
introduction to administering a GT4-based Grid is also provided. To register,
send email to gt4tutorial@novgp.com.
Prep materials for
the developer tutorial are available.
